cut-the-crap_thumb1Here at Black Dress Partners, we pride ourselves on transparency and, to put it bluntly, cutting the crap. As a small business, we of course struggle with many of the same issues as other small businesses:  limited manpower, limited time, limited money, limited resources, juggling clients and client projects, juggling issues that crop up in our personal lives, struggling with writer’s block and/or general lack of inspiration, wrestling with uncertainty and ambiguity…I’m sure the list could go on and on.

But the best thing to do is to keep putting one foot in front of the other, continue to make progress, and adjust accordingly as the vision becomes clearer.  As we talk, as we research, as we explore, it all comes together, piece by piece.  Doing something is better than doing nothing, right?  If you wait for perfection to come to you–the perfect time, the perfect place, the perfect opportunity–you may never end up acting on anything at all.

We constantly have to fight against that mess of grinding gears in our head that continually send out impulses to put up front that we’re perfect.  We all know that none of us are perfect. And the world is imperfect. So drop the illusion that everything has to unfold perfectly.

Because that’s the core issue that business owners constantly bump into when trying to shake off the status quo and grow their business…”It’s too hard, the right pieces just aren’t in place to make it happen.”  And so they stagnate.  And that’s what we’re here for – to inspire, to keep focused, and to help you power through to the other side (where – who are we kidding – there’ll still be more work).

As we say to each other all the time as we continue to press forward in building our business:  “It is what it is.”  That simple, understated rallying cry signals us to let go of whatever obstacles, whatever inconveniences, whatever desires to have it all come together perfectly…and inspires us to move on regardless, either circumventing or directly addressing the problematic issue, all while still striving to reach the ultimate objective.

In today’s tech-inspired world, the current modus operandi is release, reevaluate, readjust.  We have chosen to take our cue from that. So all this has been a somewhat long-winded way to say, “Welcome to Our Website and Blog!”  It’s by no means perfect, and by no means finished (and with evolving our brand in the near future, we don’t want to spend a lot of time trying to make it perfectly finished), and it will constantly be evolving to accommodate additional resources we come across, and services we develop, and events we think the local business community needs.  When you’re in the business of providing support for what other businesses need to grow and learn, that’s just the way it is. It’s for YOU, not for us.  So welcome!

PS – I wrote this blog post this morning while standing in my kitchen, in between bites of scrambled eggs and steel cut oats.  Enlightenment and inspiration can appear at odd, stupid, and inconvenient times.   Take note. Do you have yourself properly supported to run with it when it does strike?
